National Parklands
Tower Hill National Park
is located in western Victoria and encompasses the
relatively recent extinct volcano which was formed approximately 7,500 years ago.
This Park was declared a National Park in 1892, the first National Park within
the State of Victoria. After a concerted program to re vegetate and re introduce
native fauna, the park is now closer to it's natural state with an abundance of
birds including magpie geese, emus and cape barren geese with all of the
wildlife now protected but none surrounded by fences.
During our lunch, emus
surrounded us. One of these buggers came a bit too close by sneaking up
behind Hector, leaning over his shoulder and nabbing a sandwich out of
his hand. I wish we had a snapshot of that.
